Adam is a systematist specialized in the study of lichen-forming and lichen-inhabiting fungi. His main research interests lie in the areas of taxonomy and molecular evolution of tropical and high-mountain species. He is currently studying the evolutionary processes, phylogenetic relationships, and taxonomy of largely unexplored obligate lichenicolous fungi (including lichen parasites) in the tropical Andes, one of the global centers of biodiversity and endemism.

Jolanta Miadlikowska, Senior Researcher, Department of Biology, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, USA

Jolanta’s research interests are centered on the systematics and evolutionary biology of lichenized fungi, more specifically, cyanolichens of the genus Peltigera and their secondary cryptic fungal associates (lichen mycobiota). She also explores the eco-evolutionary mechanisms that shape interactions among the main symbionts of these cyanolichens at multiple spatial scales, ranging from a few square meters to worldwide. In her research she integrates traditional revisionary methods (morphology-, anatomy-, and chemistry-based approaches) and molecular phylogenetic methods. She is also part of a team of mycologists that are exploring the diversity, evolution, and biogeographical patterns of fungal endophytes living inside thalli of lichens and leaves of plants.
